IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
EUGENIA ALGAZE GARCIA
RECEIVES SPECIAL RECOGNITION
Artist EUGENIA ALGAZE GARCIA of FULSHEAR, TEXAS has received a Special Recognition Merit Award for her artwork in the "10th Annual Faces Juried Online International Art Exhibition" hosted by
Upstream People Gallery. This international exhibition received
approximately 350 entries from around the
world and 71 artists were selected by the juror Larry Bradshaw,
Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, U. S. A.
Professor Bradshaw states this about this specially recognized work:
"EUGENIA ALGAZE GARCIA of Fulshear, Texas has a couple approaches in the use of the figure. Particularly unique are her uses of trees with the figure, especially "Protect & Defend" reiterating the mother and
child theme except that this is special since it is a father and child
theme."
The exhibition will be featured online through March 31, 2008 at
www.upstreampeoplegallery.com and continue for 12 months, closing
February 28, 2009.
Further information about the artist’s work in her own words:
"Statement About The Artwork:
"Protect & Defend", an acrylic 16x20, is a painting of a tree that
looks like a father holding his new infant in a protective manner to
keep the baby safe from the "smoke" and dangers of the surrounding
environment. I chose to represent the relationship of a Father and
infant with a tree to highlight both the natural, and sometimes
awkward, aspect of parenthood as well as the natural protective
qualities of bark. In addition, a tree can capture a moment in time
and preserve it for generations.
In creating the artwork, I drew upon my husband's and my father's
experience with Fatherhood. An infant is born vulnerable and a
Father's primal instinct is to "protect and defend" his family.
Within the texture of the bark on the father's chest, several heart
shapes represent the love that comes with bonding with a child.
The artwork is part of Eugenia Algaze Garcia's Birth Series Artworks
as well as her Healing Tree Series. See www.mindful-art.com for
more information."
